The State University of New York at Stony Brook (also known as Stony Brook University) is a public sea-grant and space-grant research university in the eastern United States. It is located in Stony Brook, New York, east of New York City on Long Island, and is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The institution was founded 61 years ago in 1957 in Oyster Bay as State University College on Long Island as a college for the preparation of secondary school teachers of mathematics and science, and moved to Stony Brook in 1962The university has expanded to include more than 200 major buildings with a combined area of more than 11 million gross square feet across 1,454 acres of land.
Campus:The main campus is located in the historic north shore hamlet of Stony Brook near the geographic midpoint of Long Island, approximately 80 km east of Manhattan and 108 km west of Montauk. Bounded to the north by New York State Route 25A (North Country Road) the campus is subdivided into West Campus and East Campus by the thoroughfare County Road 97 (Nicolls Road). The Ashley Schiff Forest Preserve separates the South Campus from West Campus. The Long Island Rail Road serves the community with the Stony Brook Station situated along the northern edge of the campus. The Stony Brook University consists of a main campus in Stony Brook, and additional satellite campuses in Manhattan, Southampton, and Korea. The university is composed of twelve schools and colleges. By enrollment, the largest college or school is the College of Arts and Science.
Academics:The university owns Stony Brook Medicine, co-manages the Brookhaven National Laboratory, in 2005 acquired land for a Research & Development Park adjacent to its main campus, and has four business incubators across the region.

It is anticipated that students who declare the accounting minor will continue their accounting education by enrolling in the MBA program in order to prepare themselves for the Uniform Certified Public Accountancy exam and a career in public accounting.
BSc in Nursing
Other Degrees Offered:BS in Health, Medicine, and Society; BS in Health Science.
BA in Economics
Economics is the study of production, distribution, and exchange of goods and services. The economics courses used to satisfy the major requirements focus on particular aspects of economics (e.g., labor markets, industrial organization, money and banking, economic development, finance) showing how economists analyze the theoretical and empirical issues. Some upper-division courses apply statistical methods, which are taught in the program.
BS in Business Management
The major program offers students a solid foundation of essential business concepts and applications. In addition to courses in statistics, decision sciences, and general management, students study the fundamentals of accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, international business, marketing, management and operations, and sustainable business. Majors have an opportunity to concentrate in one of these seven business functions :BS in Business Management with—
- Accounting / Entrepreneurship / Finance / International Business / Management & Operations / Marketing / Sustainable Business.
BS in Information Systems
Computer Science, prepares its graduates to design and build computerized data processing and decision support systems. The program is technically oriented, emphasizing the design and implementation aspects of large-scale information systems and it balances development of system engineering skills. Throughout the program, students are exposed to diverse application areas ranging from traditional business, finance, and accounting through telecommunications, networks, multimedia, and database management, to computer-aided design and industrial production management systems.
BA in Studio Art
The programs in Art are designed to provide the student with a thorough background in the history and criticism of art & sound training in studio practice and theory.Studio Art majors concentrate on the creative, technical, and practical aspects of the discipline, and then choose to concentrate on specialized tracks in drawing, painting and printmaking; photography, digital and electronic media; or ceramics and sculpture. In addition, majors are expected to acquire a sound foundation in art history and criticism. Related Degree Offered: in BA with–
- Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking

Bachelor of Civil Engineering
It will provide students technical knowledge in the field, preparing them to work in most areas of the profession, including geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, hydraulics, structural engineering, construction management, and transportation/traffic engineering. Students take courses in chemistry, physics, and math. Students are also introduced to computer software which expedites the design process, and they are taught how to balance engineering designs with economic constraints. Resources and Environmental Engineering.
Bachelor of Computer Engineering
As technology continually advances, the solutions to design problems in computer and data processing equipment more frequently encompass both hardware and software solutions. In the junior and senior years, students take computer engineering courses as well as other upper-level computer science courses and technical electives such as computer communications, digital signal processing, digital image processing, computer vision, and embedded microprocessor system design. They also carry out hands-on laboratories and internships to apply the theoretical training.Related Degree Offered: BS in Computer Science.
